Writer Spotlight: Frank M
Frank M. is a seasoned Scripted Writer that clients can’t stop talking about. We chat about his professional history, his best tips for new writers, and what kind of jobs he’s picking up on Scripted.
Tell us a little about yourself. How long have you been with Scripted?
Frank: I started with Scripted in September 2019. Before that, I worked in the trucking industry for 13 years.
Where are you from and where are you operating currently?
Frank: I'm from the Dallas/Fort Worth area. I'm operating from Burleson, TX.
How did you become a freelance writer?
Frank: I've always loved to write, but I couldn't see myself as a paperback fiction writer or news reporter. Then I found out that there's a demand to write marketing content. I decided to get training from the American Writers and Artists Institute.
Are there any tools you use to keep your quality so high?
Frank: Grammarly is awesome. It saves me a lot of time when I'm editing. The Hemmingway app is great too. It helps me keep my writing simple and easy to read.
What is your approach to proposals? What have you found that works best?
Frank: I focus on the customer - what do they need copy and content to do for them?
How have you been able to balance your work as a freelancer with the rest of your life and the current state of the world?
Frank: I make a time slot for everything. I plan out when to write, when to network, when to post things on LinkedIn, time on Facebook, and even recreation time. Not much has changed for me during the pandemic. I work in isolation anyway.
What tips would you recommend for writers who are new to the Scripted platform?
Frank: Pitch several projects at once. If you keep your pipeline full, you're more likely to get a steady flow of projects. Write your content in Word or on Google Docs and then copy and paste into the Scripted editor. That way you have a backup.
What kind of jobs are you mostly claiming these days?
Frank: Some of the first jobs I landed on scripted were logistics and transportation-related. The client needed a writer that knew the industry. I pitched that I had over a decade of experience in the industry.
